500MW KIBUNGAN Pumped-Storage Hydro Electric Power Project [PSHEPP]
500MW KIBUNGAN Pumped-Storage Hydro Electric Power Project [PSHEPP]
Pumped-storage hydroelectricity allows energy from intermittent sources such as solar, wind and other renewables, or excess electricity from continuous base-load sources like coal and gas to be saved for periods of higher demand.
The Philippines has begun to seek a path toward green energy transition and is aiming to transition to clean energy such as Nuclear and SMR as well as new and renewable energy. However, it is necessary to protect the grid due to the unstable supply of renewable energy and to prepare for storing excess power supplied at night from nuclear power generation and supplying it during the day.
In preparation for this, CBC believes that this is a time when pumped storage power plants are truly needed in the Philippines.
our efforts
This project is fully supported by indigenous people(IP). This is the result of how much time and effort CBC's executives and staff put into explaining and understanding the project to residents
The optimal location for pumped storage power generation was selected through multiple practical field investigations.
A hydro service contract (HSC 2016-07-672) was signed with DOE in August 2016, and a Certificate of Confirmation of commerciality (HCC 2022-01-270) was received from DOE in January 2022.
The process for GEA-3 will begin on April 28, 2024, under DC 2023-10-029 signed by the DOE Secretary on December 8, 2023. CBC has made a lot of preparations with relevant government agencies for this purpose, and we have no doubt that it will be the final successful bidder for GEA-3.
CBC is preparing a power supply arrangement through GEA-3 and is recruiting investors to join the company.
